In 1992, marriage counselor Dr. Gary Chapman introduced the concept of love languages in his book The 5 Love Languages. Many of us are in tune with one or more of these languages which include words of affirmation, physical touch, quality time, acts of service or receiving gifts.
At a recent concert at The Sound Wall in Opelika, Kassie and Ben Wilson of Goldpine Music soulfully shared their journey in determining their respective love language(s).
We don’t specifically call out the love language represented in the following pages, but they are unmistakable throughout this issue.
For example, the Lee County Master Gardeners offer a walk through area gardens during the spring tour in May. This encompasses quality time in an enhanced space curated by a gardener who values spending quality time finessing plantings to create beauty to be shared.
Much of this issue centers around experiences around the area. We boast the opening of new restaurants and wine bars that offer French, Italian and American fare. The love of service from these restauranteurs is evident in their curated offerings and desire to provide a unique dining experience.
Art is remarkable in the emotion it exudes from the artist and the receiver. We are honored to feature local artist, Jill Holt. Jill has a beautiful way of expressing God’s beauty through her use of color and medium.
Entertaining is a prime example of an act of service. Saying “I love you” with food resonates with most of us. Auburn Board and Box takes the work out of entertaining and provides the ease of sharing your passion with your guests. If you’re inclined to do the prep, area chefs and locals have provided their recipes for savory dishes incorporating salmon. Salmon is versatile, healthy and loved by many.
If you missed Goldpine, don’t stress. They will be back in late March during the 6th annual Opelika Songwriters Festival March 27-30, 2025. You can ask Kassie which two love languages she has. As for you and me, Spring is the perfect season for exploring the five love languages. You may find you align with one or all five. May the pages of this issue prompt you to learn more about yourself and those around you.
Play your best!
