As the crowd calms and bright lights illuminate the auditorium, a striking blonde contestant takes the stage. Although her outward appearance is eye-catching, it is her talent and poise that truly take center stage. She begins to perform, and the audience is instantly captivated, leaving little doubt of her place at the top of the competition.
The striking blonde is Brooklyn Holt, a 20 year-old student from Birmingham, Ala. Currently, she is matriculating at Auburn University where she is pursuing a dual degree through the Honors College in Journalism and Political Science.
Brooklyn is a majorette in the Auburn University Marching Band. She is also employed by Auburn University as a supplemental instructor for Pre-Calculus courses. Brooklyn’s other honors and activities include: participation in the Honors College where she serves as an ambassador attaining membership in the Lambda Sigma Honor Society, which is the top 50 sophomores, as well becoming a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and an active sister in The Alpha Gamma Delta sorority.
In addition to these accomplishments, Brooklyn is also the current Miss Auburn University. As the reigning titleholder of a Miss Alabama preliminary, Brooklyn will compete in the Miss Alabama competition in June of this year. For her talent, Brooklyn will perform in the “vocal” category. As a vocal student of 14 years, she is well-versed in the craft. She received her first international vocalist and entertainer award at the tender age of just 6 years old.
Appropriately, she dubbed her platform “Raise Your Voice for Children,” which draws attention to the plight of impoverished children and their needs. Specifically, her platform centers on the costly consequences to society when children’s basic needs are not met. According to Brooklyn, her primary goal is “for all children to realize that they cannot dwell on challenges. Rather, they must can accept them, continue to work hard and then turn those challenges into strengths!”
The current Miss Auburn selected her platform because she has long dreamed of using her talents to positively impact the lives of others. Toward this end, she recorded a CD entitled “Raise Your Voice’’ with all proceeds to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network.
Upon graduation, Brooklyn hopes to broadcast for a major news network, as she loves staying abreast on all things political and sports-related. Last summer, Brooklyn had the honor of interning in Gov. Robert Bentley’s Press Office, and says that she could also see herself involved in communications within a political office.
No matter the direction the young woman takes, one thing is certain- Auburn University is well-represented.
