Rooted in Lee County

For four decades, Bodine’s Landscape Services has carried out its work with quiet dedication, shaping the places people live, gather, and pass through—one plant, one project, and one season at a time.

What began as a part-time job to pay the rent grew into something much bigger. One opportunity led to another. One satisfied client led to a reputation built on trust. Over time, Bodine’s Landscape Services became a name synonymous not just for beautiful landscapes, but for stewardship—of land, relationships, and community.

Randy, raised on a cotton farm, brought deep knowledge of soil, water, plants, and hard work. Jana, a preacher’s daughter, provided steady leadership in organization and people. Together, they built a partnership rooted in faith, discipline, and service—working side by side and giving their best to their community.

Today, Randy is recognized as the most highly certified irrigation contractor in the state of Alabama, a reflection of his lifelong commitment to learning and excellence. His leadership extends well beyond his own business. He has served as President of the Auburn Chamber of Commerce, and notably, is the only individual to have served as President of all three major green industry organizations in Alabama: the Irrigation Association of Alabama, the Alabama Turfgrass Association, and the Alabama Nursery & Landscape Association. Through these roles, he has invested deeply in the future of the industry across our state.

North, South, East or West, you can’t enter Auburn from any direction without experiencing Bodine’s work—from the I-85 interchanges and the now famous Buc-ee’s- to South College medians to MLK Drive streetscapes and countless city gateways. Many projects are so seamlessly woven into the landscape, they feel like they’ve always been there.

Over forty years, Bodine’s Landscape Services has planted more than 100,000 trees, including over 30,000 shade trees that now tower over streets, schools, parks, and neighborhoods. These trees cool sidewalks, frame roadways, shelter wildlife, and shape dailylife. It’s a quiet kind of impact—one that grows slowly and deepens over time. As the saying goes, we often sit under the shade of trees we did not plant. Randy Bodine has spent four decades planting with the future in mind.

Landmark projects across Lee County reflect that legacy, including the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art, Auburn University Event Center, City roundabouts, Jan Dempsey Arts Center, Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind, and major manufacturing campuses. Each project—civic, educational, or artistic—is approached with respect for place and purpose.

Now, under the leadership of their son Matt Bodine, operations continue to grow with the same values. His leadership is evident in major city and university projects, including Mell Street renovations, Auburn athletics facilities, Auburn and Opelika police stations, Auburn Bank, and all 14 Auburn City schools—ensuring that even the places where Auburn’s youngest residents learn and grow are cared for with intention.

The company has been invited back to care for the same landmarks decades later—a rare sign of trust. Families who first called years ago now watch their children and grandchildren do the same.

While Bodine’s impact reaches across the Southeast, its heart remains firmly planted in Auburn and Opelika. The company is deeply committed to keeping Auburn worthy of its title as the Loveliest Village on the Plains and supporting efforts to Keep Opelika Beautiful. These are not slogans to Bodine’s, but daily practices.

The company’s story is also told in thousands of residential landscapes: custom designs, irrigation systems, seasonal color, drainage solutions, and thoughtful outdoor spaces where life happens.

Today, Randy and Jana are proud grandparents of three grandsons, watching a new generation grow alongside the company they built. Their daughter Kasey leads marketing and social media, and daughter-in-law Hannah serves as an Auburn High School educator—continuing the family’s deep community roots.

Forty years after unloading that borrowed trailer, Randy and Jana Bodine have done far more than build a business. They have shaped the spaces where we live, gather, and pass through—investing in a place and the people who call it home.

As Lee County grows, one thing stays rooted: its future is green with Bodine’s Landscape Services.
