SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Both Sylacauga varsity girls and boys soccer teams defeated Montevallo in an area matchup.
The girls had 22 shots on goal and had 64.4% of possession for the game. Defense didn’t give up a shot attempt all night. The girls defeated the bulldogs 3-0.
“This was a playoff game for us basically we needed this win to have a chance to make the playoffs,” said varsity girls head coach Nick Grogan. “With last nights win we are 2-0 in region play and have scored 14 goals and the defense still hasn’t allowed a goal in region play. The ladies really stepped up their game tonight and played an excellent game. We moved the ball well and possessed the ball for most of the game. It’s the best game we have played as a team so far this season. I’m very proud of the effort we gave tonight and I hope it will carry into our game Friday night vs Indian Springs.”
Girls stats:
Kaitlyn Boozer: 1 goal 1 assist
Lauren Ward: 1 assist
Peyton Fricks: 1 goal
Emma Grace Steers: 1 assist
Maggie Reeves: 1 goal
The varsity boys also defeated Montevallo 8-2 on Tuesday night. The Aggies had 14 shots on goal.
“This was a big win in area play. It was a chippy first half, and although we were winning 3-1 at halftime, we had to overcome some adversity,” said varsity boys head coach, Billy Faircloth. “We made some adjustments, and my guys really answered the call in the second half. We kept our composure throughout the second half and played some good soccer. Our defensive play, especially in the second half, from all of the guys led to our scoring opportunities. I’m really proud of my guys, of their level headedness in some rough spots, and of their overall play. This moves us to 2-0 in the area and 6-4 overall.”
Boys stats:
Franklin Perez: 4 goals and 1 assist
Aubrey Elliott: 2 goals and 1 assist
Camden Faircloth: 1 goal
Tanner Bowen: 1 goal
