After many schools have been realigned in the AHSAA classifications, the association has dropped the latest basketball areas for the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons.
Sylacauga remains in Class 5A, which the AHSAA announced late in 2019, but has moved to Area 8.
Sylacauga will move from a three team area consisting of Sylacauga Munfird and Central High School of Clay County, to a four team area. The Aggies’ area foes will now be Central High School of Clay County, Shelby County High School and the rival Talladega Tigers, which are moving up from 4A.
“Our new area features some very good basketball programs,” said Kent Fullington. Fullington will be in his second year as Sylacauga boys head coach next season. “Adding Talladega to the area, considering they’re coming off a state title in 2019 and a finals appearance this year, makes the regular season games between our programs a lot more special.”
Both Sylacauga boys and girls programs are coming off Elite 8 appearances this year.
