No. 17 Auburn hosts Alabama A&M for pair of midweek matchups

AUBURN, Ala. – Coming off its season opening sweep against Presbyterian, No. 17 Auburn hosts Alabama A&M for a pair of midweek games at Plainsman Park.

First pitch Tuesday and Wednesday is set for 4 p.m. CT, and both contests can be heard on the Auburn Sports Network.

Auburn’s season opening sweep against Presbyterian marked the team’s third opening weekend sweep in the last four seasons.

The Tigers improved to 15-4 in season opening series under head coach Butch Thompson, including 12-1 in the last four years.

The Auburn pitching staff turned in a 1.29 ERA and struck out 10 or more batters in all three contests. The Tigers have now struck out 10+ batters in 19 of the last 21 games since the start of 2020.

The Tigers’ bullpen allowed just one run in 14.0 innings of work (0.64 ERA).

Newcomers Josh Hall and Bryson Ware went a combined 9-for-19 with five runs and seven RBI.

Thirteen players collected a hit and 10 players scored and drove in a run over the weekend.

Trace Bright will make the fourth start of his Auburn career Tuesday, and Jack Sokol will make his Auburn debut in Wednesday’s game.

Auburn has won all 13 previous contests against Alabama A&M, outscoring the Bulldogs 142-26.


Alabama A&M is led by first-year head coach Elliott James, who served as an assistant at Grambling  State (2018-20) and Southern (2013-17) the last eight seasons.

Alabama A&M’s season opening weekend in New Orleans was canceled due to weather.

The Bulldogs return their top three hitters from a season ago, including leading hitter Janmikell Bastardo, who turned in a .323 average in 17 games in 2020.

In accordance with current state health COVID-19 guidelines, Plainsman Park capacity will be reduced to approximately 20 percent to begin the 2021 Auburn baseball season.

Seats will be arranged in pods of two and four with proper social distancing between each available seating group. Available and unavailable seats will be marked accordingly.

Plainsman Patio and Tiger Terrace will be unavailable to begin the season. In addition, alternative viewing spaces outside the park, including the stadium parking deck, will not be available for the 2021 season.

Face coverings (over the nose and mouth) will be required for all spectators and gameday workers upon entry and while inside Plainsman Park. Guests may remove face coverings while actively eating or drinking.

All transactions for concessions and merchandise locations at Plainsman Park will be contactless and cashless (credit/debit and Tiger Cards only).

Enhanced cleaning and sanitization procedures throughout the park prior to and during all games will be in effect for the 2021 season.
