DURHAM, N.C. – Auburn right-hander Richard Fitts has been named to the Golden Spikes Award preseason watch list, USA Baseball announced Thursday.
The 2021 season marks the fourth straight year an Auburn pitcher has appeared on the preseason watch list as Fitts follows in the footsteps of Casey Mize (2018) and Tanner Burns (2019, 2020). The Tigers are joined by LSU as the only two programs in America with a pitcher represented on the watch list each of the last four seasons. Former Auburn infielder Will Holland was also named to the list in 2019.
The preseason watch list features 55 of the nation’s top amateur players from high school and college baseball. The Golden Spikes Award Advisory Board will maintain a rolling list of players, allowing athletes to play themselves into consideration throughout the season. The 43rd Golden Spikes Award will ultimately be presented in July.
