RadioAlabama stations win three 2020 ABBY Awards for broadcast excellence

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The RadioAlabama Sports mobile app, the radio station group’s innovative new video/audio podcast “High Five to the Face”, and Chris Wright of “The Chris Wright Show” on 98.3 Fox FM earned coveted ABBY Awards from the Alabama Broadcasters Association at Saturday’s annual presentation ceremony in Birmingham.

The new RadioAlabama Sports app, launched last October, provides mobile access to live and on-demand content, expanding on RadioAlabama’s increased commitment to multi-sport coverage for multiple platforms. During last year’s football season, RadioAlabama Sports broadcast teams produced an average of 37 long-form hours of local audio content each week across Yea!106.5, KiX 100.3, 98.3 Fox FM, and AU100, while additional video, audio, photos, and stories also appeared on RadioAlabamaSports.net. Content in the RadioAlabama Sports app is created and curated by the RadioAlabama Sports teams with focus on local sports including live game coverage of area high schools, scoreboard shows, original reporting, analysis, video interviews with coaches and players, game highlights, podcasts, on-demand video, and more. The iOS app has been installed on hundreds of devices and allows users to receive push notifications for breaking updates on their favorite teams and sports.

Also in 2019, Marble City Pharmacy owners and brothers Jacob and Jared Johnson launched the “High Five to the Face” podcast capitalizing on a contagious yet dry sense of humor initially exposed in their radio ads. A new hour-long episode including interviews with special guests is released each month.

With yet another ABBY win for 98.3 Fox FM as best personality or team, host Chris Wright and his morning shows on 105.1 WRFS and 98.3 Fox FM had twice been honored with an ABBY. Building on continued success, Chris and Suzanne Wynn launched “Alabama’s Morning Show” on three RadioAlabama stations – AU100, 98.3 Fox FM, and KiX 96.3 — in January 2020.

The annual ABBYs, sponsored by the Alabama Broadcasters Association, honor the best in broadcasting. Alabama’s radio and television stations submitted 610 entries this year, making this the most competitive annual event ever.

Owned by Marble City Media LLC and winner of multiple ABBY Awards in 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and now 2020 for news, sports, production, programming, and client promotion, the RadioAlabama station group was also home to Alabama’s Radio Station of the Year in 2017 and the Alabama Broadcasters Association’s Broadcaster of the Year in 2014. The company was also honored with the Cornerstone Award by the Sylacauga Chamber of Commerce in 2018.

RadioAlabama’s stations and services in east central Alabama include 98.3 Fox FM (WFXO), Yea!106.5 (WFXO-HD2), 105.1 WRFS (WRFS), AU100 (WAUE), KiX 100.3 (WYEA), KiX 96.3 (WSGN), SylacaugaNews.com, and RadioAlabamaSports.net. Last year, the company announced construction of a new multimedia operations, production, and studios project in a building spanning half an acre in downtown Sylacauga. Construction is scheduled to be completed this month.
