St. James too much for Lady Aggies in Montgomery

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Sylacauga volleyball had a sensational season in 2019, but it came to an end with the state quarterfinals on the line Thursday afternoon.

Earlier in the day Sylacauga, in the south 5A bracket, topped Jackson at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl in three straight sets to advance as one of the final 16 teams remaining in the state.

The Aggies brought momentum into the afternoon match versus the St. James Trojans, but it just was not the Aggies’ match to have.

Behind dominant play at the net, St. James was just too much to handle for the Aggies which fell in straight sets.

St. James took the first set 10-25 and the second set 7-25. However, the Aggies made St. James earn it in the final set.

The Aggies fought valiantly in the third set led by Faith Richardson and Aaliyah Carter. At one point Sylacauga held a 19-18 advantage. The Trojans, however, would outlast the Aggies and finish the third set on top in a thriller, 27-25.
