There is something special about week 10 of the high school football season, especially in south Talladega County.
Some schools have an off week after playing 10 straight games beginning in week zero. Some schools play inconsequential non-region game with no postseason implications at stake.
But some schools save the best for last.
On a cold Friday night, B.B. Comer will host homecoming and the Fayetteville Wolves where both teams will leave it all out on the field as the Tigers host the Wolves at Legion Stadium in Sylacauga. Both programs have improved from last season. Fayetteville has already nabbed a playoff berth and the Comer Tigers still have a chance to get in if things go their way tonight.
B.B. Comer (4-5, 3-4) has won two of the last three over the Fayetteville Wolves (6-3, 3-3). The teams have evenly split the last four dating back to the 2015 season.
Coach John Limbaugh has been a staple of Fayetteville High School since 2012, leading the Wolves to two of its three overall playoff appearances, and its only region championship in 2015.
On the other side of the field, Comer is led by second-year head coach Adam Fossett who has turned the program around quickly. Remember, in 2017, the Tigers finished the season with less than 15 total players, and the program was in jeopardy. Fossett now has a full roster and field a competitive bunch the B.B. can be, and should be, very proud of.
Tonight’s rivalry, as some people have coined “The New Marble City Classic’ should be a good one that the community should come out for.
