The Lincoln Golden Bears had a special 2019 season, winning the region championship for the second-straight year and going undefeated in the region for the first time since 2008. Three senior leaders signed to play football at the next level.
Cam Reynolds, Javion Surles and Steven White each signed letters of intent to play college football.
Cam Reynolds
Reynolds doubled as a running back and safety, rushing for over 300 yards and five touchdowns. He signed to play safety at Huntingdon College in Montgomery.
Reynolds said the love he received from the coaches attracted him to Huntingdon.
“Huntingdon made it feel like home,” Reynolds said. “Coach Turk called me every day, every other day at least, just checking in on me.”
Reynolds said he is most looking forward to competing with and against players he is familiar with from the high school level and in meeting new players.
“The big aspect for me is just getting better and competing against guys that have been playing in college before me,” Reynolds said.
Javion Surles
Surles primarily played quarterback for the Golden Bears, throwing for over 1,600 yards and 25 touchdowns. A dual-threat quarterback nicknamed “Cyborg,” Surles was Lincoln’s leading rusher with nine touchdowns. He signed with UVA-Wise where he will play defensive back for the Cavaliers.
Surles said he is looking forward to working on his technique, getting his education and trying to make it to the pros.
Steven White
White, a one-man wrecking crew on the defensive line, led Lincoln in tackles for loss (28) and sacks (6.5). He signed with the University of West Alabama.
“I didn’t want to go somewhere that was too far,” White said. “I wanted to go somewhere that wasn’t too far but not too close. The other thing was they have my major. I’m trying to major in sports medicine, and that is one of their top majors.”
White said he is most looking forward to competing for a spot in playing time as he takes the next step.
