For the Extreme Heat Warning, dangerously hot conditions with heat index values in excess of 110 degrees expected and up to 115 degrees possible.

WHERE
Portions of northeast Louisiana and central, south central, southwest, and west central Mississippi.

WHEN
From 11 AM to 8 PM CDT Friday.

IMPACTS
Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat related illnesses.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates.

Western Alabama, Southeast Arkansas, Northeast Louisiana, Mississippi

EFFECTIVE
This Thursday afternoon and evening from 510 PM until 1000 PM CDT.

THREATS
Scattered damaging wind gusts to 60 mph possible

SITUATION
Widely scattered thunderstorms will continue to occur across the region through at least sunset, but may sustain longer if storms modestly organize into clusters and progress south-southeastward across the region with wind damage as the primary hazard. The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 60 statute miles north and south of a line from 30 miles south of Monticello AR to 45 miles southeast of Columbus MS. PRECAUTIONS
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce tornadoes.
