LOCATION: Sylacauga, Ala.
DUTIES: Researches, writes, produces, and multipurposes local news and sports stories for our websites, social media channels, and audio and video platforms with focus on accuracy, correct grammar and punctuation, and prescribed editorial style and formatting guidelines. Gathers information through research, interviews, or attendance at news, political, cultural, recreational, social, sports, or other functions and arranges and conducts interviews with newsmakers. Establishes and maintains relationships and develops connections as information sources. Evaluates leads and tips to develop story ideas. Discusses issues with news managers to establish priorities. Records and edits video and audio. Interacts on behalf of our stations on social media. Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or work experience; be fluent in English with strong written and oral communication skills; have confident on-air and on-camera presence; be reasonably proficient with or demonstrate an aptitude for editing as well as use of cameras, microphones, lights, and other newsgathering and editing tools; have experience with content publishing platform such as WordPress and metrics dashboards for websites and social media platforms; be reasonably proficient with computers, telephones, and other office equipment; be able to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously; have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record; project a professional appearance and demeanor; be an organized self-starter able to work effectively without direct supervision; and be flexible in scheduling.
